Description
An old fishing net from Närpiö from 1907. The total length of the net is about 9 meters and it has about 200 float corks. There is written year 1907 and a house name “In Åbbel Nempnes” in one float cork. The edge rope of the net is cut in few points and there are some large holes in the net itself.
The village of Nämpnäs is one of the oldest places in Närpes. The earliest written mention was made as early as 1442. Fishing has been one of the main industries of the inhabitants of Nämpnäs. It saved the inhabitants during the hunger years of the 19th century. Karl Mattson Åbbel is mentioned as an alderman in the history of the village from 1898 to 1899.
